Experiential Trip with the Uganda Carnivore Program

The Uganda Carnivore Program bases its core activities in the northern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park and works in close collaboration with the Uganda Wildlife Authority to monitor, research and conserve the large predators in the area (lion, leopard and hyena).

Senior research assistant James Kalyewa is responsible for the day-to-day monitoring of the park’s predators. In his spare time, James offers his expertise to the Uganda Wildlife Authority’s Experiential Tourism initiative in Queen Elizabeth National Park. James goes out with tourists into the park, where he shows them how predator tracking is done and also provides them with firsthand knowledge of the challenges involved in research and conservation by introducing them to the area’s wildlife and people.

This trip is a unique experience that we highly recommend. It's an opportunity to learn a lot about lions from someone that works with them daily and has dedicated his life to aid in their conservation and survival. Follow the radio signals from collared lions off the beaten tracks of the park and learn about the individual lions while viewing them just metres from the vehicle. Come face to face with multiple lions over the course of one morning. This is an experience not to be missed!

The experiential trip departs Little Elephant Camp at 6:45am and returns to camp sometime between 11am and midday.
